Hulloh, there! I’m Lou, the slightly askew brain behind the wonderful world of Yarntistry. I’m most well known for my mental health plushies, kawaii cacti, collectible art dolls and inedibly adorable amigurumi food.

I’ve been on the crochet scene since 2013 and, prior to that, I was a knitter and portrait artist. Crochet has become a therapeutic lifeline for me, as well as giving me the incredible opportunity to support myself through doing what I love. I grew up in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar, where socialising with friends in the 45°C heat played second fiddle to my various creative endeavours (in other words, I was am an anti-social weirdo who prefers the company of craft materials.) I studied Illustration at University and then devoted my life to my family whilst I pursued my hooky passion in my (minimal) spare time.

Yarntistry started after sharing images of my creations on a crochet-centric social media group where people really fell in love with the oddball characters that I created. After being asked time after time if my items were for sale, I decided to start crocheting things for folk to adopt and call their own. I didn’t think for a second that it would turn into my career! Things took off fairly quickly and, after creating my very first crochet cactus, I began to develop a wonderfully quirky and loyal following through social media.

In Spring of 2016 I joined the Simply Crochet Magazine team as a regular article contributor and the face and hands behind their popular YouTube channel! Dream job or what?

I live in wet but-beautiful Scotland with my better half and our two strange, smelly children. We love long walks, fry ups and lay ins and I'm looking forward to sharing our adventures with you all!
