About Vicky Wolfe Animal Portraits

Vicky Wolfe Animal Portraits

“All animals deserve to have their portrait painted”

I have been drawing animals for as long as I can remember. One of my favourite pastimes as a child, when visiting my Granny and Grandpa’s house, was to take their Poole Pottery animal ornaments from the shelf and draw them.
All through school I earned pocket money painting people’s pets for them and also stocked a local florist with hand painted cards. I went on to study History of Art at Warwick University and, pre children, when still living in London, I enjoyed a hectic few years working in advertising.
In the early 2000’s I left London behind and moved, with my husband and children, to Oxfordshire. We eventually settled in the small village of Barford St Michael, just outside Banbury, where I now work as an artist.
Drawing animals is, for me, an extension of loving them. I grew up with numerous pets and have always been fascinated by the natural world. The move to Barford came about because there was a field for sale. The house that came with it only had 2 bedrooms for the 5 of us BUT the field meant that we could give a home to lots of animals!
We lived in a caravan whilst we made the house fit us and now have a field full of furry / woolly friends - 4 pet sheep, 3 alpacas, 2 Shetland ponies, numerous chickens and our dog, Flump ( who lives in the house as she’s a princess).
I take inspiration for my wildlife art from the countryside around me and the creatures I see within it. Working in acrylic paint with pen and pencil, my aim is to capture the energy and personality of my subject and this extends into my work painting portraits of people’s beloved pets.
Thank you for visiting my shop and please do get in touch should you wish to discuss a commission, whether it be of a deserving pet or any other creature great or small!
