Thread Icons was established in 2012 by myself, Yve Ngoo, a former Arts Development worker and Journalist at the BBC.
I have always been a keen crafts person and artist, particularly around textiles and recycling.
When I began working with wool and felt, I instantly fell in love with the colours, versatility and its sheer tactile pleasure. However, many of the contemporary artworks produced in felt were not to my taste, that being bold, brash, pop art and kitsch, so I started creating my own style of felt art.
My flat felt pieces are made into one off cushions, and have been purchased by interior designers, collectors of pop art and collectors of textile art. They have also been featured in House and Gardens magazine.
My Thread Icon Dolls started very small , with a Lil’ Frida Khalo, but soon grew to almost 2 feet with Prince, Bowie and Lemmy.. all commissions for private buyers!
