I worked as a community nurse for over 25 years and wanted to be involved in something pretty, joyful, and beautiful when I retired. I then started volunteering in a charity shop as I love recycling. We never had enough hats for the charity shop customers in the summer, so I thought I could try and make some fascinators for the shop, as I had been a sewer and involved in crafts all my life. Customers liked what I made, and this lit a huge spark in me. I decided to take some millinery courses and that was it...I was hooked. I have over the last few years made hundreds and hundreds of fascinators, and I have enjoyed this immensely. Then the Covid pandemic hit and no one needed fancy headwear for about three years, so I closed my Tiny Hat Company. The millinery saleroom above was closed.
I missed making pretty things. I tried sewing again and other artwork, but they were not as exciting as making hats. I have decided to reopen The Tiny Hat Company again on a smaller basis. Folksy seemed the right platform to show my work once more.
