All through my life, I've been scientifically minded, but I've always loved creating things. Science has always been a large part of my family life, and since I was academically interested in it, I progressed through school until finally, I gained a degree in geology in 2008. My connection with the earth is deep.
I got a job soon after University and for the first time in my life, I had a salary and some money to spend. I saved lots of the money I earned, but decided to treat myself in a miniature celebration by means of a shopping spree.
However, on getting to the shops, I was disappointed to find there was little of interest. I looked through loads of shops trying to find some nice jewellery to buy, but ended up empty handed after realising all the shops had cheap carbon-copy jewellery that I had no desire for at all.
Instead, I decided to buy myself some jewellery-making tools and materials, and I've never looked back.
I began making my own jewellery and later decided to share it with the rest of the world.
All of my pieces of jewellery are still so personal to me, and are all pieces I would happily wear myself, so to send them to the far reaches of our planet makes me very happy. But with sending my jewellery all around the world, there is a responsibility to give back something to the earth when I'm using resources to get them there.
After working for almost 5 years in the oil and gas sector, I made sure that my environmental conscience stayed clean by utilising a lot of recycled parts in my jewellery and gifts. I love giving old bits and pieces a second chance! Even after a career move into the medical gas industry, then the medical device industry, I keep finding new scrap metal pieces and inspiration to incorporate into amazing jewellery, miniatures, sculptures and gifts.
To ensure the planet gets a little something back for the new materials I use and shipping around the world, Terra Rhapsody will plant a tree for every 30 orders received. The first tree planted in the name of Terra Rhapsody was an oak tree instructed on the 4th October 2019. The trees are being planted in the National Forest, Midlands, United Kingdom https://www.nationalforest.org/
So this means that when you buy from Terra Rhapsody, you are a piece of rebuilding a little bit of our earth- without having it do a thing. Care through doing an everyday thing. We are small steps on a big planet. Walk with me.
Terra Rhapsody is now a very extensive hobby and small business that fits in around social and full-time working life, although if my desk gets any bigger, I may have to start fitting my house around the hobby too!
Terra Rhapsody has also begun to expand into craft fairs and gallery showings around the UK. You can currently find a number of items from Terra Rhapsody at the Firefly shop in Wrexham, North Wales.
