I am a maker from Kirkcaldy Scotland, now living and working in the capital, Edinburgh. I studied painting at Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen before completing a MFA at Edinburgh College of Art. During my masters I began exploring sculpture, mainly with concrete and steel but this led into working with Timber.
After graduating I managed to get a job at a local cabinet makers and have fallen in love with the work we do. During my time working with professional cabinet makers I have learned a lot about timber and its uses. I've also learned that there can be a lot of waste material left over or materials that aren't useful for larger projects. I do what I can to not let anything go to waste, turning these cast offs into a variety of different items.
I began woodturning back in 2017, I began with small projects and quickly fell in love with the process. I found it to be very hypnotic and soothing. The process is a wonderful way to bring out the unique beauty in a single piece of wood. It was also extremely positive for my mental health, helping me to overcome issues with depression and anxiety.
I'm lucky now to have a small space in a local workshop where I can use my lathe and create these wonderful items :D
