I live in North Wales and have a background in graphic design and passion for interior design. Pottery has been consuming me for over ten years now, I work in a shed in the garden and my kiln is in the garage.
Mainly working in a flecked stoneware clay I love the way the marks come through on the second firing, giving a more natural, tactile feel. My shapes and glazes are very simple and I’ve recently started to use a black clay, which has beautiful depth and works well with Japanese-style forms. I work in small batches and no two pieces are the same; that's because they're made by hand.
My process
Once the pottery has been thrown on the wheel it has to dry to ‘leather hard’ and then it can be trimmed/turned. Then it has to dry completely, this is then called Greenware. The next stage is firing to bisque which is to around 1000°c, it is then glazed, left to dry and finally fired to 1280°c.
As my background is in graphic design it seemed natural to produce a set of cards to complement my ceramics. They're the perfect accompaniment to a pottery gift. The inspiration for all my cards is from the photographs I've taken of my ceramics over the years.
My clay is recycled as much as possible, I also try to use recycled packaging.
