My latest love for crafting is working with wood.
I came across these unusual tree branches entwined with honeysuckle many years ago …..it is a forest I have visited regularly for over 20 years or more, lovingly named the curly stick wood, a place enchanted with little people, groves and sacred places.
A while back whilst walking in the woods I was horrified to see that the forestry where in the process of a mass devastation mass destruction of all the Oaks, Beeches and Ash Sycamore, Hemlock, Rowan. Field Maple, except Birch the coloniser, the forests all around looks like a war zone, it is an incredibly sad sight to see, just barbaric. I was moved to tears.
One day as I was walking through the woods I couldn’t believe what I saw, I found some of these entwined branches under debris
chain sawed branches. many damaged but not all , then my mission began to save as many as I could. they are a very limited in supply which ads to their uniqueness and beauty.
So what you see is something of great natural beauty which would have otherwise of been lost and forgotten !
The snake is created when Honeysuckle grows and spirals around the tree branch.
When the tree feels she’s being attacked she creates a burr that forms over the wound like a defence mechanism which may have been caused by anything: fungi, bacteria, virus, insect activity, animal activity, weather or human etc.
My work is Divinely inspired… making every effort to re -use , recycle ,up cycle and reform anything that comes my way !......into an object that’s a bespoke practical and a one off creation.
