Hello! My name is Natalie Hughes and I am a student at Glyndwr University studying the MA in Professional Art Practitioner.
I live in North Wales with my two beautiful daughters and my third baby pomchi Tig.

The concept that one material is more precious than another is something that I have felt to need to discourage on a personal level. This has continuously shown through my work at university as for a number of years I have predominantly worked with materials people would consider as rubbish to throw away. Just like people, I believe there is not a single material more important than another, everything has its own unique characteristics and that is what is important.

A 'cheap' material finished beautifully excites me just as much as any precious metal or sparkly gem. How you work with the material is key, if you respect it as you would a diamond you will see the beauty of its own personal behaviours.

I will use ethical, sustainable or recycled materials as much as I can. This is something that I am passionate about as you will see if you follow my Instagram page. In the past I have used plastic and found wood in my work and this is something that I will continuously be thinking about when creating new designs.

Any products made from sterling silver or other materials with a relatively high copper content will inevitably tarnish over time. Although protective coatings are applied, they do wear off over time with use of the everyday products we use. Because of this I am offering a free life-long cleaning service for products bought from me.
