Here are some things just listed by other crafters and sellers on Folksy.
The machine you see at the back is our Polyester square panel printer, that prints from 4x4 inches to 36x36 inches wide (71.12cm)
This is our printer's job "Roger" he's in charge of the large machinery, the heat presses which are not in the image, and the badly behaved cotton printer at the front the Mimaki.
The Mimaki who is the bad boy of the work shop, is our cotton printer, it only prints on to 100% cotton, at the moment we only have the 130gsm as you loose 1-2 meters at the start for tests and at the end, so we try and not move the bolts around and let the 100% meters a time through before we take it off. Usually on a Monday we print Friday-Mondays Cotton Meters first are lined up by Stef then sent to print, she then lines all the cotton panels up and sends them to print, printing starts at 9am Monday and can depending on volume take all night to print, which to be fair is most of the time. It is then all heat sealed, hand cut and packed and posted to our customers :)
Me well I'm Moonie, people call me Moonie in real as well as on most sites. I am the designer and trouble maker, I am a self taught graphic designer only later did I get my qualifications and worked for a newspaper in Wales creating adverts, mostly motors. :) and started to design greeting cards for an American company, which I still do, old habits :) My husband in his wisdom thought we could have a go at putting those designs on mugs, then we could afford a press to do cushion covers, and then he discovered Polyester printing and life stopped at that moment haha and the business became what it is today. So 90% of my artwork is now on Prints along with the husbands photographs and some lovely designs I fancy and License from other Artists.
Roger the Printer ex emergency ambulance guy, Dodge is in charge of all the machinery down in the workshop, he makes sure that the badly behave Mimaki does not spit ink all over our cotton, that the printing goes smooth, collates all the fabric, humps the massive rolls around and all the dirty stuff like cleaning the machines, colourfasting the fabrics, he has a little side kick Archie the border terrier whos job is to throw balls under the machines so Roger has to get them, it's a very important job and he loves going to work every day, tail up and wags all day long, everyone who comes to the workshop, as we have masses of deliveries, knows him, he's our meter and greeter.
Stef is our lady who sends all the fabric to print, she lines every single one up, meters are easy as they are straight runs, so it varies nicely, the panels take the longest as they all have to have 1 inch margins put on washing instructions, and then it's like a giant jigsaw where you line them up for cutting, it's fiddly :) and we have to do it a certain way to make hand cutting them easy.
Julie is our post lady she compiles all our lists of who is ordering what and does the postage, we generate labels usually the day before Darren our postie picks them up, so Monday we do all the labels it usually takes all Monday and in to Tuesday to do from Friday/Monday's prints, they are then picked up on Tuesday by Darren or Hellen :), we then start again Wed same thing print etc.
Busy day Thursday as we do the final print, pack post, and Friday we make sure everything is out, as yes sometimes the machines eat that one panel from an order and it has to hold back to be re done, not so bad on poly but cotton wrong one's are a nightmare. :) but we get there.
And that's us, Tanya, Roger, Stef and Julie :)
We also print for artists, we either make cotton meters for them by either making a design out of their artwork, or print their artwork on panels, Moonie does a lot of custom panels, people's dog's, children, even garden sheds :), she will design meters for others as well, we never do copyright work so Disney is out :) we do get asked a lot. We do not charge for designs the fabric prices are what they are for the meters, it can take a while though (not panels their fast) as sometimes we can get swamped by customs :)
Thank you all for reading our novel ha
