About Michael Atkin printmaker

Michael Atkin printmaker

Artist printmaker producing limited edition etchings, lino prints and wood engravings from his home based workshop.

I have been producing limited edition fine art etchings, lino-prints and wood engravings since leaving Art College in the 1970's, founding my own 'private press' named Bracken Press to publish myfirst limited edition book entitled 'The Scarborough Tragedy' which was purchased by the Victoria and Albert Museum. Since then more books have been hand printed and hand bound in strictly limited editions.
The workshop is housed at the bottom of the garden where my collection of 5 antique printing presses from the 19th Century, two Albion presses, 1 Columbian and Arab platen and a Rochat etching press form the backbone of the open access print workshop.
The idyllic Yorkshire countryside figures predominantly in my work, the figures in my pictures give scale to the surrounding landscape.
Michael's work is held in many national and international collections including the British Museum, National Library of Australia, New York State Library, Beverley Art Gallery, Scarborough Museum Trust, Stephen Joseph Theatre, York City Art Gallery, Bibliotec National Paris, British Telecom, Barclays Bank Plc and numerous private collections worldwide.
I'm the Secretary of The Fylingdales Group of Artists ( Founded 1925) and an Exhibiting Members of Leeds Fine Artists, and a Member of The Oxford Guild of Printers.
I'm presently working on a limited edition book of 26 etchings & some wood engravings, entitled 'An Alphabet of Scarborough' in an edition of 26 copies ,1/4 leather binding which is due to be completed in Spring of 2017.
