Contemporary hand turned wooden clocks

I’ve always loved creating things, (start with a cliché but it’s true, it’s true). I can still remember that I couldn’t wait to start school at five because I wanted to paint a big picture of a lorry! Growing up with a keen interest in Lego and Meccano and spending Sundays in my Dad’s well equipped work shed, being introduced to all the tools at an early age sowed the seeds. As I got older I had my heart set on a career as a graphic designer but during the exploratory foundation year at college, lecturers and fellow students constantly remarked on my abilities to “make things”. I was surprised, it was something I took for granted (thanks to Sundays in the shed). So I was persuaded to choose a degree course in designer/crafts at Brighton Polytechnic. This I enjoyed immensely but found myself slightly distracted in my final year, by a curiosity and growing obsession to find out what all this “computer programming” was about! (We won’t talk about the V8 engine I was also rebuilding on my student bedroom floor). Anyway, I graduated and took what was intended to be temporary employment renting a workshop, with the intention of becoming a fulltime designer maker. However, this was eventually side-lined when my temporary employer recruited me for my technical drawing skills to setup a drawing office, which we shortly computerised and that encompassed my other passion.

Fast forward to very recently and I found myself having established a career and living, from working with computers, programming, digital media, and running my own business for nearly thirty years. As I’m sure many of us find, the passion and enthusiasm can wane a little and I found myself looking for new challenges, thinking “what if”? This has led to my revisiting skills I acquired and ideas I developed thirty five years ago at college and, has provided me with renewed challenges and ambitions. My goal is to make items to the highest standard possible and that through their design and function, will be pleasing and fulfilling.
