Welcome to RiverLark Jewellery!
MY INSPIRATION
With a luthier father and a potter aunt, the drive to create runs deep in my family. We share a love for making enticing, tactile, beautiful and functional works of art.
All my life I have had a passion for the natural world, and am constantly in awe of my surroundings while out exploring, from my local riverbanks and forest to the annual Cornish family visit and associated rambles on the South West Coast Path; the soar of a red kite riding thermals in the sky, the blur of a peregrine stooping from the heavens, the slip of an otter delving secretly into the water, the plop of a water vole off the bankside, the friendly drone of the bees in the borders and hedgerows, dappled light on a forest bluebell glade.....
The sense of life, the movement and colour in these moments is exhilarating, and something I strive to reflect in my jewellery. I draw my inspiration from Flora and Fauna in nature.
MY JEWELLERY
All of my pieces are individually handmade; no two are exactly alike!
I work primarily in copper using etching and oxidisation techniques to create unique jewellery pieces with an organic feel, evoking the inspirations from which they were birthed.
Acid etching adds dimensions and reveals textures, ripples and creases - a wondrous variety of patterns dictated purely by the metal itself, while oxidisation uses controlled heating and cooling - the result is a beautiful kaleidoscope of colours from reds, oranges and greens through to blues and purples.
The very nature of these processes mean there is always a surprise about to be revealed for the maker as well, which is very exciting!
All pieces are finished with a museum grade breathable preservative wax, which protects while allowing a natural patina to form; I love how the colour deepens and softens over time, further tying my work back to the natural world from which it was inspired.
I am continuously developing new designs, and am also open to discussing commissions if you are looking for something specific - drop me a message and we can start a conversation!
A Scot currently living in the beautiful Suffolk countryside, a stones throw from the River Lark set to the background of calling cuckoos, skylarks and buntings, I am diligently supervised in my work and my rambling by Bramble - my wee black spaniel buddy!
Thanks for looking!
