I am a self-confessed fabric junky. I love the stuff - I love the colours, I love the textures and I love to look at neat piles of it folded up on shelves! Naturally, I also love to make stuff out of it. It all started when I was about 11 and I made my best friend a clutch bag for Christmas because I couldn't afford to buy her anything nice. (To this day she still has it!) Then I moved on to making my own clothes - skirts, blouses, dresses etc. I have sewn on and off ever since.

I have spates of making particular things, so, as you can see, for a while it was bags, then it was cushions ... and so on. I especially like to upcycle fabric or leather, and incorporate it into something new. I love the idea that a once loved, but no longer worn, piece of clothing for example, can be repurposed and have a new lease of life.

I have a son, who is into cosplay and video games and over the years I have made him some epic coats based on characters that he admires. He wears them out on a regular basis - looking like he's just stepped off the set for the latest superhero movie - and when people stop to complement his look he loves to say, "My mum made it". Those pieces are my labours of love!

I work from my bedroom, which over-looks the amazing North Berwick Law, which is an extinct volcano in Scotland, and I often crowd in there with my sewing pal who inspires me with the new things she is making and vice versa.

As we like to say, "sewing sooths the soul"!
