Making perfectly imperfect prints in my kitchen for fun.

Hi, I'm Carolyn and I'm teaching myself linocut and printing at home. I love nothing more than sitting with a cup of coffee, my dog at my feet, a podcast playing and carving a block. I've always loved art and creating but never pursued it after school as I needed a 'proper job'. I see beauty all around me be it shape, colour, contrast or just the way a leaf or a petal curls. I take inspiration from where I live overlooking the River Severn and the glorious Forest of Dean and surrounding areas. Sometimes something will just catch my eye and I think "I've got to capture that!"

I started work from my kitchen table and more recently have taken over the utility room with it's wonderful view out across the horseshoe bend of the River and the stunning Garden Cliff. I sometimes use photographs to work from or I make sketches of ideas I have in my mind of how I want something to look. I use several types of block - Japanese vinyl and traditional grey lino - to carve my designs and oil-based relief printing inks. I started out hand burnishing all my prints but I now have an etching press that helps my wrists no end!
