Handsmade Leather Oddities

Hello there,

Thank you for visiting my shop.

My name is Taz and I'm a self-taught leatherworker. I love making bags, accessories and masks, and will try my hand at anything that takles my fancy.

I started about 10 years ago, had a loverly pair of leather braces that needed repair but couldn't find anyone to repair them for me. So I thought:" How hard can it be to repair 'em myself?". That was 12 years ago and I've been making leather goods ever since.

What I love most about the ancient art of working with leather is the leather itself. I mostly use vegetable tanned leather.
Which means natural tannings
have been used to preserve and condition the leather.
I really like this method as it retains all the natural texture and features of the hide.
Every animal, and therefor its hide, is unique and tells its own story.
It also means that the dye reacts slightly differently to the leather in certain areas
due to density and oil contents, resulting in a rich textured finish.

Lastly, the name Hondekop, ( in case you were wondering ),is Dutch for Doghead,
a nickname my brother gave me almost 50 years ago and it's stuck
