Growing up around an "uber-crafty" mother back in Germany, it comes as no real surprise that some of that creativity got passed on to me.
I enjoyed drawing when I was younger but over the years it became apparent that I am more into needlework. When I took up cross stitching again several years ago I also became interested in fabrics, but I was somewhat reluctant to "trust" a sewing machine and therefore sew everything by hand.
Eventually I realised this was unsustainable and once I got to know my then new machine there was no stopping me, and I asked myself why I had wasted so much time before. Hindsight. Wonderful thing.
I love making "smalls", turning old and used materials into something new, giving pieces a new lease of life when they might otherwise end up in the bin.
A lot of times a certain piece of fabric literally jumps at me and gives me an initial idea. Once that idea manifests itself the rest pretty much falls into place. Size, shape, colour combinations, accessories, everything starts with that initial brain wave.
I don`t have great control over that myself, often I feel just like a messenger, the means for my fabric to be transformed into something greater. I don`t mind to be "used" like that, the only downside is that my creativity seems to peak at times when I should be fast asleep and doesn`t let me switch off until I have done what it wanted me to do!
I am thankful that I have found something I am so passionate about, something that keeps me up at night with excitement and something that I can share with people who are like-minded.
