Upcycled handpainted dolls, providing a more natural and childlike alternative to Barbie.

Hello and welcome to Festival folk dolls. Many folk have asked me how I got into the art of repainting dolls and I usually have the same answer ‘children’. I went from working full time as a midwife to being at home with two small children so I I felt the need to utilise my artistic flair in the small breaks that naps gave me.

It’s wasn’t until I went to a top London toyshop to buy my girls dolls that I realise how much makeup’s these dolls had and how inappropriate some of their clothes were. I just wanted dolls that looked innocent and child like. I decided to bite the bullet and start making some of my own. I was overwhelmed by the response and my dolls flew off the shelf.

I spent hours playing around with these dolls and learning the techniques from different paint mediums to the art of handsculpting shoes from silicone. I loved the way each of these dolls come out with an individual face and look and it was from here the ‘festival folk dolls’ were born. Sold at fayres and festivals and made to be played with outdoors having fun mucking around climbing trees and camping. The recycled dolls are given a spa, faces removed repainted and restyled with handmade clothes and shoes. My dolls are made with love and are suitable for all ages and all colouring. They are made to a high quality standard and are ready for play. I hope you like them!
