About Fabric Mountain

Fabric Mountain

Fabric Mountain, where threads and fibres are turned into beautiful, treasured textile gifts.

Hello, I’m Sally Roydhouse, I have recently moved from the Yorkshire Wolds to the wild & remote edge of the world commonly known as the Isle of Skye, where I run a small home business called Fabric Mountain which started from a mountain of fabric!
I am a graphic designer who retrained in textiles 6 years ago. Since then I have discovered a new passion for creating mixed media collage work, textile jewellery and surface pattern design for fabric.
My inspiration comes from anywhere and everywhere. I look for rhythms and cycles in nature, repeating patterns, colours and textures. I search out the extraordinary in the ordinary.
I enjoy crochet, embroidery, encaustic art, beach combing and kite flying. I’m an avid collector of vintage linens, antique paper ephemera and my beloved Hornsea Pottery. I relax by playing my ukulele badly.
Favourite artists include, from my former neck of the woods, David Hockney, Picasso, Magritte, Hundertwasser & Warhol are artists I greatly admire. I swoon over the arts and crafts & art nouveau movement, from William Morris to Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
I love the Apple Macintosh computer too!
I marvell at typography and influences in graphics and fonts which have come through the Bauhaus school and are evident in European political posters of the 1920’s. That's me, and I love cats too but don't have one any more.
