About EmmaWadeART

EmmaWadeART

Art and Design studio based in Surrey

I’m Emma and I run EmmaWadeART, a small arts studio in Surrey where I make Bespoke Jewellery/ Trinket Shell Dishes.

I started making Jewellery dishes in 2018 as a hobby and when my friends and family started asking me to make some for them I made a decision to open up an online shop to see if I could appeal to a wider audience.

In my past I have always loved painting and experimenting with mixed mediums. Having worked for many years in the competitive, fast paced Design Industry I can now enjoy working for myself, at a slightly slower pace.

This decision to open up my shop has opened me up to a new world of being able to be creative with no restrictions. It is a good feeling to know that I can have an idea and I am then able to bring that idea to fruition. Being able to then sell my work is something that I had always dreamed of doing but had never enough confidence to actually go ahead and do, until now!

Collecting the unwashed discarded shells from Dorset is the new start of a journey. Back home they are scrubbed, cleaned and then prepped for the soon-to-be creative metamorphosis.

Looking at the shells reminds me constantly of nature: the constantly changing colours and moods of the sea; the clouds reflecting in the waters below; the crashing waves foaming against the rock walls of the sea caves; on a calmer day, the serenity and the hidden depths of the crystal clear waters; listening to the constant hum of the chattering wildlife and smelling the bouquets of the flora and fauna that is further accentuated by the the saltiness of the air.

As I let my mind drift an idea will more often than not occur to me and I just want to capture that feeling, that emotion, and transpose it on to the shell itself, transforming it into its very own little work of art.

It is therefore such a truly wonderful, and humbling, feeling when someone buys an item that you’ve created and a glorious 'cherry on the top' when they let you know how happy they are with their purchase. It makes me smile for hours and encourages me to keep on going and to keep on pushing new creative boundaries.
