About Me and what I do !
My name is Deby and I live In St Buryan, Cornwall. In 2010, after reading an article in a craft magazine, I was fascinated In a craft I had never heard of ‘lampworking’. Melting rods of glass in a very intense flame, Moulding and shaping into beads and sculptures. It looked like far too much fun, and instantly I was hooked!
My studio is set in the picturesque, fishing village of Mousehole. Most of My inspiration comes from my gorgeous surroundings, mainly the beach and of course ‘The Mousehole cat ‘ and is often reflected in my work.
I love creating creatures and characters in the flame, each being unique.
The lampworking process for the beads Isn’t finished In the flame, The beads then have a long hot soak In a kiln, where The temperature drops slowly over the next 10 hours To stabilise the glass and ensures durability. Each bead is then checked and thoroughly cleaned by hand.
