Carolyn Sara Designs

Bright, Bold & British Knitting

Hiyaaaa! I’m Carolyn and first things first; I love knitting, which you can probably tell from the ridiculous grin on my face when surrounded by my knitted lambswool cushions.

My obsession with knitting began at 8 years old when the family dog, a slightly mad springer spaniel called Flossy, decided to rip the head off my favourite stuffed toy, Stripey (yes, with an e - I hadn't learnt to spell yet). After a severe fall out with Flossy and a few failed attempts at stitching it back together, I managed to knit a matching stripy scarf to reattach it’s mangled head to it’s body and made sure to keep it well away from the teething springer spaniel!

From then on my relationship with hand knitting has been complicated! Going from loving the addictive, repetitive and therapeutic nature of the craft to being utterly frustrated with forever dropping stitches or simply being too busy to take the time out to indulge in the pastime.

It was only when I went to university and specialised in knitwear that I truly fell in love with knitting - experimenting on a variety of vintage knitting machines and discovering the endless possibilities a strand of yarn can do, which I am constantly fascinated and baffled by, even to this day.

Ever piece is made individually and begins as a strand of luxury British-spun lambswool, which is knitted row by row using vintage hand-powered knitting machines. This individuality not only makes each product unique and personal but also means there are no offs resulting in next to no waste during production.

`My persian heritage has influenced my love for colour and pattern and this is reflected in my daring colour combinations and graphic, geometric designs.
