I design and handcraft colourful genuine gemstone jewellery pieces for people who like their jewellery to look beautiful and feel great to wear. Working only with ethically-sourced certified genuine gemstones and quality precious metals I design and handcrafted all Black Lotus London pieces to produce wearable jewellery that will be loved and will last!
I think life is too short to wear boring and mass-produced jewellery and so handcraft all pieces with love and attention to detail from high quality materials. All Black Lotus London pieces are handmade by me in strict limited edition quantities which will I hope will become treasured favourites in your jewellery box for many years to come! I don’t believe limited edtion, high quality jewellery has to mean high prices - so whatever your budget you don’t need to worry about turning up to your next event wearing the same jewellery as someone else! Plus my real passion is creating new designs so I will happily work *with* you to create your dream piece of jewellery for a special occasion or save you hours looking for that perfect jewellery set to match the outfit that you’ve bought. I started jewellery-making purely as a hobby several years ago while I was unable to work while recovering from some long-term health problems. Having studied Art and Design as part of my Higher Education I wanted to return to my creative roots, as well as embrace my passion for Fashion - but I just couldn’t seem to master the sewing machine, so jewellery design seemed like a great, accessible outlet for my designer’s brain! I soon fell in love with the craft and after taking a short-course in jewellery design at the inspirational and iconic Central St Martin’s, London, I decided to pursue it as a career so spent several years teaching myself various disciplines. I soon became captivated by the world of genuine gemstones and the amazing variety of colours, textures and patterns within it - all of which are mini-masterpieces made by Mother Nature. I also produce a range of 100% unique, strictly one-of-a-kind jewellery designs, as part of the Beaux Artisan Gems Collection by Black Lotus London, for people who like their jewellery to be as unique and beautiful as they are. I’m an avid explorer and love nothing more than grabbing my backpack and jetting off to explore the next country or continent. My love bright and bold colours and intricate pattern and detailing is probably influenced by my travels around South East Asia, as well as my Sri Lankan Heritage! Flora and Fauna also inspire me, as well as the scenic beauty of the natural world - some of my particular favourites are birds, butterflies and tropical fish, as well as variegated flowers, orchids and waterlilies. (My name, “Nelum”, in fact means Lotus Flower in Sinhalese!)
