I started out making beaded jewellery in around 2008, and after relocating to the East Midlands (UK) I decided I wanted to go a stage further and pursue my dream of becoming a silversmith.
I signed up for evening classes in September 2014 and for twenty weeks I drove 120 mile round trip every Wednesday between home, work, classes and back home. It was exhausting but the only way to fit it in! I was addicted instantly and began accumulating tools as and when I could, ending up with a functioning workshop of my own, where I now make to my heart's content.
There is nothing so satisfying as creating something new from raw materials, and even now I am always overjoyed when I finish a piece. I make chains, rings, pendants, bangles, pet tags, belt buckles and brooches. I learned stone setting recently and am now enthralled with it, stones can set off a piece incredibly well. I have done quite a few commission pieces too, so don't hold back if you have an idea you want made real!
I do struggle to keep my two cats, Linus and Wallace, out of my workshop, it's a constant battle - every time I open the door, they dash in!
