In my old art group, someone wanted to have a go at portraiture, so we all decided to join in. For practice outside the live sessions in the group, I wanted to do something challenging and was drawn to the thoughtful expression and weather-beaten texture of this man's face when rummaging through some old magazines for inspiration. It took me a while to finish though. The art group disbanded when the teacher retired shortly afterwards and I also had to put this drawing on one side for some time until I had chance to finish it.
