Unique handmade pottery thrown on my potter's wheel.
This large vase is made from stoneware which means it is very durable. The clay gives a biscuit speckled colour which shows through the mat glaze. It was first thrown then left until it is leather hard, turned (trimmed) and I add my makers mark. Once dry it is bisque fired then glazed and fired a second time at 1220 oC.
All glazes are lead free. Two glazes are applied, mat creamy glaze and a turquoise blue. Where these glazes meet they interact to make a sea green colour. There is added texture in this layer and even bubbles. This vase turned out particularly bobbly which makes it look more interesting but these are fragile and may break if knock against something hard. If this happens it will not detract from the vase but might be sharp.
