Ceramic Teapot Trivet and 4 Coasters- Green Hearts
Description
A delightful set of four coasters with a matching teapot trivet.
The lovely coasters were made in my studio in Bristol, and are part of my 'Hearty Range'. They are a set of four coasters, two pale green, and two dark green. The teapot trivet has a mixture of pale and dark green hearts.
They are all made using clay cut-outs of hearts of 2 sizes, these are then laid in a circle outline. I then smooth the underside of each coaster and the trivet using more clay, this creates my unique and lovely looking design. All the coasters and the trivet were then fired to 980'C.
The main glaze is a stoneware glaze called 'marcasite', I covered each coaster and the trivet in this glaze and then 'washed back' the tops, leaving the natural white-ish colour of the clay showing. Finally I hand painted three hearts of two coasters in pale green, and dark green on the other two. I also painted various hearts in both pale and dark green on the trivet. They were all then fired again, this time to 1220'C.

The backs have been covered in black felt to protect any delicate surfaces

Inspiration
I am a firm campaigner for British, hand crafted goods, and I always try to source gifts and things for my home from fellow crafters.
I make my ceramics using hand building techniques, particularly ‘slabbing’ where you roll out clay (kind of like pastry) and then use it to make all sorts of things. There is almost no end to the things which you can create with clay, it is just so versatile. Glazing is always exciting, as you never know what effects will have taken place each time you open the kiln!
I try to make items to suit all budgets, and just LOVE making ceramics. I usually try to make items which are usable as well as nice to look at!
