Meet the maker Marceline Smith

Hello! I'm Marceline, an illustrator, blogger, designer and zinemaker working from home in the west coast of Scotland. I make a range of illustrated stationery, accessories and gifts inspired by Japanese kawaii.

Trained as a printmaker, I found a new outlet for my love of colour and pattern by designing a range of characters and patterns for stationery, fabric, gift wrap and many other products. I started Asking For Trouble in 2007 and was lucky enough to quit my job for the freelance life a year later.

Starting with doodles from my sketchbook, I work them into designs and patterns in Illustrator. Then it's the difficult job of deciding what to get them printed on - printed paper goods, fabric yardage or even cut in wood. I also license my designs to appear on everything from mugs and iPhone cases to shower curtains and rainboots!

My work is very much inspired by Japan and my visits there - I love the mix of happy kawaii characters on every corner juxtaposed by the traditional patterns of kimono and chiyogami paper. Most of all, my aim is to make you smile!

Order Shipping
I ship orders on Mondays and Thursdays. Large orders and Recorded Delivery may take a little longer. Your order will be marked as shipped as soon as it's in the post.

UK orders are sent First Class which arrives in 1-3 days but can take up to 21 days in extreme cases. If your order doesn't arrive in 21 days please email me and I'll look into it.

If you have any special requests, especially about urgent orders, please message me as I don't always check the PayPal notes until shipping day.

Shop Policies.
I only accept PayPal. If you have any problems at all with checkout or payment let me know and I will do my best to help you out. Please keep your Folksy and PayPal address information up to date. If your order has two different addresses, I will use the address provided by Folksy. It is your responsibility to provide a correct address - additional shipping costs will be required if an item is returned due to an incorrect address.

PLEASE NOTE: Your order is not confirmed until payment is complete. If you wish to secure an item but are unable to pay immediately, please contact me so I can keep your item/s aside. Most items are available in multiples so there's really no urgency.

Problems and Returns
If there's a problem with your order, or you wish to return it, please contact me as soon as possible. Items can be returned within 14 days or receipt for a replacement or refund. Please see the return policy on individual listings for more information. I would appreciate the opportunity to rectify any issues before you leave negative feedback. I'm always happy to help!
