Meet the maker Mira

I'm a German expat living in the beautiful Kent countryside close to the coast, where inspiration is never far. I have been making and selling jewellery full-time for a few years now (on another large online marketplace since 2011) and am lucky enough to be able to 'work' from home. (It still seems strange calling it 'work' as something this much fun can't possibly be considered work!) I opened up shop on Folksy in May 2015, additionally to my other online shop, as I think it's fabulous to have a site dedicated to support Handmade in Britain!

I got into jewellery making as a hobby a good few years ago, inspired by a necklace my mum gave me and have gotten totally obsessed with collecting beads and fabrics since then which are slowly but surely taking over the house - and my life..! (I guess as far as obsessions go, it could be much worse, right ? ☺)
Thanks to my mum, I have always been creative in one way or another all through my life. Her creativity was simply contagious when us kids were young and I have such wonderful memories of making handmade birthday and Christmas presents for friends and family.. painting on silk and ceramics, making candles, printing fabrics with potato stamps, making papermache hand puppets, knitting, crocheting, sewing and much, much more…
