Meet the maker Harriet Wesley
Hello and welcome to my shop!
I am ceramic designer working from my studio in the New Forest. I studied a BA in Ceramics at West Surrey College of Art and Design (Farnham) in the 90's followed by a PGCE in Art and Art Therapy. This led to several years of teaching art and design and developing skills in the field of therapeutic arts.
I also own my own gallery called 'Chalks' in Lymington in the New Forest which I run with my daughter. This is mainly where I sell my work now.
I have always been inspired by the New Forest, where I grew up, and where I now live and work. My surrounding environment of nature and and my love of folklore and ancient Greek and Egyptian design have a great influence on my work and ideas.
My work is hand built ceramics using a range of techniques including coiling, slab building, pinching and using my own handmade moulds, and sculpting. I also use a range of decorating techniques firing to both earthenware and stoneware temperatures. Some of my more colourful glazes are manufactured ones which are usually mixed or modified by me by adding crystals or oxides, but many are made and developed by me. I sometimes use metal leaf on my work to add extra detail which is added after the firing process.
I hope you enjoy looking through my shop. Thanks for taking the time to read my profile
Happy Shopping!!
