Meet the maker Ellen Adair

Hello!

I founded Graceful Deviant in 2011 and design all the pieces you see in the shop.
I illustrate all of the art charms, silversmith, source gemstones and then combine all of these together to make dainty, unique limited edition jewellery.

Having committed to a career in pharmaceutical science, you might be mistaken for thinking that the white coat reflects only a logical and analytical mind. But there is a creative, passionate and imaginative part in there too that also loves to experiment and invent! And that's how my story started!

With a love of jewellery, gemstones and working with metals since a teenager, Graceful Deviant was born in 2011. I already knew I wanted my brand name to be an oxymoron - to reflect the contrasting finishes of bright or black silver but also the illustrations that I was using in charms.

My inspiration has, and always will be, from the natural world. I've always had a keen interest in archaeology, botany, astronomy, anatomy and mythology. Combining this with gemology and metallurgy has been a self taught journey and one which I am continuing to relish each and every day.

Now that jewellery designing and making is my full time profession, I still find elements of my old chemistry life involved when working with silver from making etching solutions to heating acids that help remove firescale - there never really is a true escape!

When I do manage to escape I love to travel and explore new sights and cultures. I have backpacked Eastern and Southern Africa, China, Central America and Australia to name a few. The backpack will always be emptied for the return trip though to accommodate any new gems that have been uncovered!

I am constantly learning new techniques to incorporate into my designs and I hope you will enjoy discovering them here in my Folksy shop and that you will keep in touch and follow me on my handmade adventure!

GRACEFUL DEVIANT STORE INFORMATION:-

CUSTOM ORDERS

If you would like to customise your own jewellery then please get in touch using the 'contact seller' button. I would love to hear from you!
The process usually involves some time to assess exactly what is required followed by a quote. I often send lots of photographs too so you can see any variations in designs and choose your favourite.
If you are happy to proceed then payment is made and work begins! From the very start I will keep you informed all the way as to the status of your order and photographs of the final product before posting incase of any minor adjustments that may need to be made.
Please be aware that custom orders cannot be exchanged or refunded unless they are faulty.

SHIPPING

Orders are shipped 1-3 working days after payment has been received unless otherwise stated. They are shipped via Royal Mail 1st class delivery and Royal Mail Airmail. Royal Mail 1st class aims to deliver within 1 day. Royal Mail Airmail is from 5 days.

Typically, U.K orders arrive within 3 working days of posting and to the U.S, the shipping time is around 10-14 working days.

They are shipped to the address you supply to Folksy. If addresses differ between Paypal and Folksy then the Folksy address will be the default. I cannot accept responsibility if the address you supply is incorrect.

If you would like your parcel to be tracked and/or signed for please contact me for a postage quote. Multiple items will be shipped together to minimise the P&P costs to you. If you require seperate wrapping and/or shipping then please contact me.

The above timescales for delivery are averages and some may arrive sooner, some a bit later. Items are considered lost after 2 weeks for the U.K and EU and 1 month for the rest of the world. In this instance a refund will be offered or the item will be shipped out again at the request of the customer. If the item does not arrive a 2nd time around then only a refund will be offered.

Items must be returned unused and in the original packaging. Only then will an exchange or refund be offered.

Please note that earrings cannot be returned unless faulty for hygiene reasons. Custom orders are also not refunded or exchanged.
