I have enjoyed creative stitching and art-based crafts for almost as long as I can remember. From about 9 years of age I began to develop an enthusiasm for making things, from spending time watching my Mum sewing clothes for my sister and me on her old Singer treadle machine. I grew to love it, and it became my favoured subject throughout my school years. Adulthood and the need to earn a living beckoned, so I qualified at a high level in administration, and have spent most of my working life in various office roles - although I never gave up my love of stitching!
I am very fortunate to have a family who encouraged me to return to the sewing machine! My late Mum had wanted me to try something else, and to acknowledge that I started to make quilts shortly after she passed away in 2015. I now work from a purpose built studio in my home, where all quilts are handmade personally by me, using a domestic sewing machine and long-arm quilter.
Most are quilted using a long-arm machine. The fabrics I use are 100% cotton fibre, which have been pre-washed (unless otherwise stated in the product description) on a short, detergent-free cycle, to eliminate shrinkage and potential dye loss. Central core composition is either a 50% cotton / 50% natural bamboo eco-friendly batting or 100% soft cotton, also pre-washed prior to construction. Each quilt is supplied in a natural calico drawstring storage bag (not included on gift size quilts). No quilt is repeated in both block pattern and fabric design, so all my own designs are 'one-off'. Several I have made from patterns freely available on the internet; in each case this is stated in the description and credit given to the designer. Postage and packing to most destinations within mainland UK is included. Shipping is usually within 2 days.
My quilts and gifts are from a smoke-free and pet-free home.
