About Wendy Hobbs Art

Wendy Hobbs Art

I am Wendy, a wildlife artist, specialising in British species, based on the edge of Dartmoor in Devon.

The coast and countryside, and the animals that live here, have been a constant source of interest and inspiration to me as I have grown up in the South West.
Art and creativity have always been part of my life, but completing a short course on scientific illustration a few years back provided me with a definite way forward for my artwork. I am fascinated by the natural world around me and this style of painting gives me the opportunity to look into both the scientific and visual details of my subjects. The joy is in the detail and I love attempting to capture a scientifically accurate depiction of a species. I focus on UK wildlife as there is an abundance of variety to keep me occupied.
Each painting is built up of multiple, thin washes of acrylic paint, which work together to give an intensely coloured and vibrant image. Although this is time consuming the final image is worth it.
Maybe you have a deep connection to a particular species of bird or animal, or an overall love of the natural world. I hope that there will be something for you in my collection of wildlife paintings, prints and cards of British wildlife.
