About watercolourloulou

watercolourloulou

playful, bright watercolour & pen illustrations of everyday things captured in print, on clothing, children's furniture and in stories

When you live in a house that you share with the following - two kids (one big, one smaller), one husband (bike mad*), four dogs (two absolutely tiny, one scruffy and one food obsessed), three cats (one diva, one grumpy and one more or less normal), two lodgers (wonderful people from interesting places) and two dwarf hamsters (still going strong) - it would be easy to be submerged by (a) housework (b) homework (c) eating cake or (d) the urge to run down the street in a onesie screaming.

Now I, luckily, have done none of these things...yet. I, instead, turned to what I loved doing in my teens and twenties and decided to try again mainly for the sake of my sanity - but also because it brings me inordinate amounts of pleasure - painting. And I was drawn to watercolour which I find joyful to work with because of it's volatility and adaptability as a medium. I introduced pen shortly after which meets my neat and tidy side (yes, it's in there somewhere) and allows me to define and enhance the watercolour paintings further.

Much activity has followed over time including (but as ever an ongoing journey) framing illustrations and making cards, printing clothing, painting children's furniture and illustrating vintage Levi's denim jackets. Most recently I have been writing and illustrating stories about a bunny and a mouse which hope to throw a more understandable light onto quite tricky psychological problems such as anger, shame and sadness.

So, I'm channeling creativity all over, and I think it's great. And I think all of us have something similar inside, it's just a matter of time and opportunity. In the meantime, I'm happy to answer any questions about my things, or about life in general if you prefer. Take care, Louise.
