Unique objects cast from the finest recycled aluminium

The objects I make are made from recycled aluminium specially selected by me from the aluminium skip at my local scrap yard. The aluminium (mostly car crankcases) is then cut into pieces small enough to fit in my crucible.

I principally use the ‘lost foam casting technique. A pattern of the object is made out of foam, another piece to foam is then attached to form a sprue ( a channel for the metal to enter the pattern ). The whole thing is then buried in sand. The aluminium is then melted and poured down the sprue destroying the pattern. When cooled the object is dug out of the sand to reveal an almost perfect copy of the pattern in solid metal. Well, that’s the theory - if (when) it goes wrong a new pattern has to be made and the whole process repeated. If the casting is a good one the sprue it cut off and the object finished using a variety of methods.
