Hi I'm Helen! I play designer, pattern maker, sewer, marketer, postage and packager, and book keeper here at The Walnut Trees. Other than dressmaking, I love cycling, the sun, eating, wine, and looking after my two Ragdoll cats Louie and Nacho.
I've been incredibly lucky to have grown up in London, on the doorstep of cutting edge fashion and inspiring people.
When a schoolfriend helped me sew my first dress in 2007, I became hooked on creating bespoke dresses for myself; I love vintage clothes, floral prints and big skirts, but have always struggled to find exactly what I'm after in highstreet shops. I'd spend all my weekends and evenings sewing and going to classes at the London College of Fashion and other schools to refine my skills.
Having spent years designing and making dresses for myself and always receiving compliments, I was eager to share the love and make it a full time job, so I decided to take a break from my career in digital marketing (I'm a Scrum Master by trade and have always worked with software development teams - a far cry from the fashion world, but I'm elated to be able to mix the two in the marketing space!) and create The Walnut Trees.
I take my inspiration from war-era (30s, 40s, 50s) fashion, but adapt it to the 21st century for comfortable and practical modern lifestyles. I hope you like the Walnut Tree style as much as I do; I'd love to hear from you!
