The Practical Yarner£25.00
Hi, welcome to my new shop!
Everything in my shop is designed and made by me, Jacqueline.
Buying online from an independent maker and seller can be uncertain. So I try to ensure all my photos are as true to colour as possible (but there maybe be differences on some screens). And although some backgrounds maybe a bit wacky, the products are the true item you will receive.
If you have any questions about my products, please contact me and I'll be happy to discuss.
I aim to send out all orders within 24-48 hours of receipt. If you order at the weekend or after 3pm, I'll post out the next weekday.
All items are wrapped and ready to gift. Small ones - tissue paper and a compostable shipping bag. Bags and larger orders are wrapped and boxed, then a recyclable shipping bag.
Thanks for stopping by!
Jacqueline
Hi, my name is Jacqueline. I design and crochet every item I bring you as The Practical Yarner.
I've always been a bit crafty and creative. I watched my Nan and Aunt crochet when I was young, but I never really took to it. Then in 2012 I saw a book of crochet projects for newbies, with projects that really appealed to me and I suddenly took an interest. I've been in love with the craft ever since and rarely a day goes by without me picking up my crochet hook.
I still have the first blanket made from that book! With all its mistakes and mis-matched yarn. Ooooh the mis-matched yarn. I'm a sucker for juicy colourful balls of yarn. So I just bought anything as long as it was in the colours I needed for the blanket. With no idea about yarn types, material or weight and the impact this has on a project. Well they say if you don't mistakes you don't learn...
Since then, I've spent hours with YouTube and friends who've helped me hone a craft. I'm still a bit of a rebel when it comes to following other designers patterns, for my own wardrobe. I often change a feature and nearly always change the suggested yarn, to match one I already have. Anyway, having made many mistakes I like to think I've learnt a few things. So that now I can design and craft accessories with great care, so they stand the test of time and are just right for you.
CROCHET AND MENTAL HEALTH
Patience is not a natural virtue of mine. So crochet has been a great outlet, forcing me to slow down and enjoy the making as much as the finished product. It also helps me manage my perfectionist tendencies. I will always make mistakes! But this craft helps me manage my expectations and accept this. Even when it means frogging back (unpicking) several hours work and redoing it…so I always give the best quality to you, my customers.
WHY THE FOLKSY SHOP?
Crochet has certainly had a revival in recent years. Both learning the craft and wearing it. But I found many designs are either, only for the summer, more suited to the younger generation, or just don't fit my personal style.
So I started to design and create accessories that did fit my style and I WOULD use. Friends and family admired them, like they do. And that led me to thinking maybe a wider audience is looking for quality handmade items that suit a more classic style and can be used seasonally.
So I've focused on practical accessories you'll use all year round. Chosen colours that don't always follow trends. And kept the designs simple, so the colours make the statement for your personal style.
My range began with phone sleeves and has expanded to include crochet bags, pouches and tablet/e-reader sleeves. With the occasional crochet keychain to use up leftover yarn.
I really hope you like the colours I've put together. I welcome custom orders. But length of time to complete can vary, so please check the listings for details and message me if you'd like to know more detail.
BRIEF NOTE - I know many people feel that a social media presence can be a good indication of a genuine handmade small business. I've never been much for social media. I fully intended to try posting since opening my shops, but each time I try, I'm overwhelmed with panic and anxiety. So sorry, my Instagram is empty if you'd hoped to see more (as of 2026).
Practically & Colourfully Yours
Jacqueline
