Handmade eco-friendly accessories from the East of England

Hullo! I'm Ash, a sewist from the East of England, and I am The Serpent (who) Sews.

I started sewing during my time at university, using it to help with both my time as an Acting student and then as a Film student. I realised that I could use my sewing skills to help my other creative interests, using my sewing skills on sets to assist with costume fixes and alterations!

When I learnt to sew, it was on my Great Aunt's old machine, a piece of kit almost double my own age and one that made me feel closer to her memory. Whilst learning, my grandmother often told me stories of her father, who sewed all of her and her five (yes, five!) sisters' dresses, and how much love he put into each stitch. I want to be able to give that to the rest of the world, and maybe inspire some of my younger family to begin the craft themselves one day.

I aim to keep my products as affordable as possible and as environmentally friendly as possible. To do this, I source my fabrics and notions second-hand through local craft charity shops and second-hand sites.
