Hi! My name is Susan and I’m the glass artist behind **The Glass Needle**.

I’ve now been fusing glass for **9 years**, and I still feel like every day is a learning day. There are always new techniques to try, different reactions between colours to discover and, occasionally, a surprise waiting when I open the kiln!

What started out in my home studio in Westhill, Aberdeenshire has grown over the years, and I’m now very lucky to have my own **studio in Aberdeen**, where I create my work and teach **fused glass workshops twice a week**. I absolutely love sharing glass fusing with others and seeing the completely different pieces everyone creates.

When I’m not teaching, you’ll usually find me in the studio cutting glass, experimenting with colours, making jewellery and decorative pieces, or loading one of my kilns ready for another firing.

Glass fusing definitely isn't an instant craft. A single firing can take around 12–13 hours and some pieces need to go into the kiln two or even three times before they're finished. There’s still something exciting about opening the kiln after a firing to see how everything has turned out – I don’t think that ever wears off!

My work is very much inspired by **colour and nature**, and I particularly love creating colourful jewellery, flowers, birds and pieces inspired by the landscape. Every item is individually handmade, so there will always be little differences that make each piece unique.
