Teddy Bear Studio is owned and operated by father and daughter team Andrew and Elizabeth Moore.
Elizabeth has been making Teddy Bears for a number of years having been given a Teddy Bear kit by Andrew. Now designing her own bears and making them completely by hand, this is a new venture for them. Andrew produced Teddy related items in the 1980s selling them at craft fairs and a few local shops to his then home in Harwich, Essex. Teddy Blue Eye, a reject Teddy was created and added to a range of items but after becoming a Teacher, Andrew largely left him alone. Withis new venture, Teddy Blue Eye will be making a return alongside his many cute and cuddly friends.
Working from their home studio in Worcestershire, this venture is a big change for both Andrew and Elizabeth; Elizabeth has recently completed a Masters Degree in History. Andrew has taken early retirement from teaching to care for his wife who has Multiple Myeloma and is recovering from a stroke. Jane, (Mum and Wife) helps out in any way she can as she is not able to continue in her role within the NHS. Packing, stuffing bears, and offering constructive criticism of new items is her role which forms a good form of therapy.
Many bears are completely hand sewn but some larger seams are created on Elizabeths 100 year old Singer sewing machine with a cast iron treddle stand. Using a converted out buildingas a workshop and what was the family sitting room as an office, store room and display area, this truly is a home based, family operated cottage industry.
Currently in the early stages of development is a range of bears with a historical theme using Elizabeths knowledge from her degrees.
Andrew and Elizabeth are very much Dog lovers and have three dogs; Minnie is an 8 year old Chorkie with something of mean but lovable side. Pippin is a 2 year old Chorkie buit you would think shes a full Yorkie, very loving and gentle with everyone except Minnie. Then theres new addition Teddy (what else could we call him?) an adorable Golden Retriever who just loves everything and everyone.
A donation of all proffits will be made to charities close to the family including Myeloma UK, Stroke.org and local hospice caring for Jane "Primrose Hospice".
