I hand-dye silk, and also crochet items in vibrant colours.
I have been hand-dyeing silk for the last 12 years, perhaps a little more. I have had a passion for this beautiful fabric ever since I kept silkworms in a shoebox some 70 years ago!! So, it has been a lifelong affair! I love colours and although I only use the primary colours and occasionally a little bit of black, I am able to mix any colour I want. It is so exciting to start with a blank piece of silk and blend the colours, ending up with an amazing unique item.
I wear a silk scarf most days, and at night I sleep in a silk sleeping bag that I made. My pillowcase is also silk - hand-dyed of course. I have flown to faraway Australia with a sleeping bag wrapped around my shoulders to keep me warm and comfortable. I have also swum in the azure seas of a remote island in Indonesia with a large silk scarf wrapped around me...over my swimming costume! I love to travel, and I love silk - it keeps me calm and feeling peaceful.
I love vibrant colours, and it gives me such joy to hand-dye items; each one is different, and will have been dyed a few times to achieve the wonderful depth and variety of colour. I do all this in my kitchen which conveniently has a slate floor, and overlooks a cobbled courtyard. It really is an ideal setting for me. I generally have some classical music playing, and then relax and enjoy the process. When I finally wash and then iron each item, it is such a joy to see what I have produced. I am delighted to be able to offer these to you.
I have also recently started crocheting rugs and scarves in vibrant, exciting colours. You can probably tell, I like to keep myself busy! ; )
