Artisan Soaps and Ceramics

Soaps and ceramics: simple, beautiful, less plastic.

Hi, I’m Angela and welcome to my shop. I started out making soaps and ceramics soap dishes and then the clay bug took hold and now you”ll find me, more often than not, in my pottery shed, playing with clay.

About 10 years ago, as a family we wanted to reduce the amount of plastic we used, so I signed up for a soap making course and I started to make all our own soap and shampoo bars. After having them safety assessed, I started to sell locally in Cumbria and wanted soap dishes to go with them. I’d always wanted to enrol on a pottery course and found a lovely class near me run by Liz Collinson in Dolphinholme. I was hooked! There’s endless possibilities with clay and it’s so relaxing.

I make different styles of soap dishes and mostly use stoneware clay but also use earthenware and porcelain. I also make vases, decorations, incense burners, and wax melt burners.

I use different techniques including slab building, coiling, and pinch pots. I have recently discovered the Japanese technique of kurinuki, which is carving out clay.
