“Giclée prints and original portraits inspired by women in mythology and literature”
Hi, I'm Sian! I studied English and fine art at A-level before doing a complete 180 at university and completing a degree in astronomy. My time at uni ended up being difficult for a number of reasons, but one of the biggest factors was the regret I had from not doing something more creative instead.
I dabbled with painting and did the occasional pencil portrait during my time at uni and the jobs I had after, but I finally decided to be more serious and consistent with my art again in 2022. I didn't really know what I wanted to do - just that I didn't want to focus on realistic pencil portraits anymore - so I experimented with watercolour and painted things inspired by the parts of my degree that I enjoyed (mostly galaxies and the Moon). This led to me reading into constellation myths and creating portraits illustrating my favourite ones. I really liked the mythological element, so got a couple of books on Greek myths and started to work from stories of women in mythology that resonated with me in some way.
I created portraits telling the stories of women in mythology for about 18 months before extending it to women in literature too! I now find inspiration from all kinds of stories that mean something to me (it can be favourite childhood films, books that shaped my life in some way, or characters that have traits or stories that I can relate to).
