Born and raised on the windswept west coast of Scotland, I spent countless joyful weekends and school breaks by the seaside. But it wasn't until much later, when I began crafting my own seascapes, that I truly realized how deeply I yearned for the ocean's embrace. Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Scottish folklore that I grew up with, I've infused my art with the magic of Selkies, those elusive creatures of land and sea.
In my quest to capture the essence of the sea, I've experimented with a variety of materials, including sand, shells, moss, and mica powder, all masterfully blended with resin on sturdy MDF or wooden bases. And in a burst of creative exploration, I've recently begun working with small wooden surfboard shapes, featuring Selkies amid the frothing waves. Using a meticulous layering technique, I strive to evoke the restless, rolling energy of the ocean, creating intricate patterns of foam and lace that bring my seascapes to life.
