Making Botanical Silver pendants to connect you to nature .

I work from a studio at the top of my steep garden on the east coast of Scotland, looking out over the garden and across to the river Forth.
I take inspiration from all the plants growing around me to create beautiful silver pendants. I've recently returned to jewellery making , but I started originally when I was about 14 - selling at a big international dance festival. Now the jewellery is taking centre stage again . I have taken some classes , learning new skills with silver metal clay and traditional silver smithing techniques and enjoy that there is always something new to learn.

During lockdown I made moulds of whatever I found growing in my garden every month. I kept this going for the whole year, so built up quite a collection. Flowers , leaves , seed heads - are all reminders of different seasons and can connect us to the natural world. I've now been reviewing these moulds and turning the best of them into beautiful silver pendants.

Although I take impressions from these moulds, my aim is to make each piece a one-off. Some are finished simply with a chain. Others have semi precious gemstone beads or charms added. I am happy for the pieces to show ' the hand of the maker' in small ways , but at the same time I am quite rigorous in deciding if something doesn't quite meet the mark. But in any event, none of these pieces will ever be completely identical .

I also like to consider the qualities attributed to the different stones , as well as the mythology around the plants.
Initially all the plants were from my own garden , but I am now extending this to other places that have some meaning to me - and perhaps to you too. Of course , you can also appreciate them without connection to a particular place or plant.
