My journey into art didn’t begin with a clear intention or long-term plan. I was born in Leicester, where the surrounding countryside and wildlife played a quiet but important role in shaping how I viewed the world. From an early age, I was naturally drawn to the details of nature, its patterns, textures, and constant movement, and making drawings became a way for me to respond to what I saw around me.
At first, art was something personal and informal. It existed in sketchbooks, loose sheets of paper, and spare moments. I found myself capturing elements of my environment, along with thoughts and ideas I struggled to put into words. Over time, creating art became a grounding process, encouraging me to slow down and observe more carefully.
As my practice developed, so did my curiosity. I began exploring different materials and learning from other artists, gradually realising that art could communicate more than appearances alone. It became a way to explore emotions, ideas, and questions, with each piece contributing to my growth, regardless of the outcome.
What started as a simple creative outlet evolved into an essential part of who I am. Art became a space for reflection, experimentation, and self-discovery. Looking back, it’s clear that my early connection to place, nature, and observation continues to influence and inform my work today.
