Colouring my life, one wonky painting at a time…

I’ve been painting for about 25 years with time off for the busyness of life. At last I’ve found my rhythm. I live and work on a lovely part of the Kent coast, not far from Folkestone and a few miles from the prettiness and history of Dymchurch, New Romney, Lydd, Dungeness, and many other towns and villages. I’m inspired by colour and light, loving to try and turn them on their heads. It’s not often that you’ll find blue skies and green trees in my paintings!

Apart from painting I like to craft- a current passion is fabric and paper bowls. I like making notebooks and sketchbooks from recycled paper and card. Collage is a favourite too, as is mosaic. And I love photography. Anything creative, really. But because of the way my brain works, everything is slightly wonky, and I like that. Perfection is so unattainable for the majority of us, and the imperfections in my work add a little charm I think.

The name “MyScruffyLittleHeart” comes from a small heart made in a mosaics class a year ago. Once it was finished, grouted and dry I looked at it, sighed once more that it was so scruffy, and fell in love with it. It stays on a display shelf in my entrance hall to remind me that wonky is good :)
