Christmas of 2019 I was gifted a sewing course, prior to this all I'd made was some bunting on an old hand crank machine. I loved the course and definitely caught the sewing bug!
Then covid hit and we were in lockdown. I had hours to fill with a newly acquired skill. First I made customised face masks for all my family. Then a local woman set up a "scrub hub" which enlisted volunteers to sew scrubs for healthcare workers during the PPE shortage. This was excellent practice and I thoroughly enjoyed it. From there I decide to customise my existing clothes, essentially just adding pockets to everything.
From there I started sewing my own clothes both from patterns I'd bought and drafting patterns myself.
I sew at home (I've managed to carve a teeny space out for my sewing) but would love to have a workshop at some point. I rent a rail in a shop in Lewes and sell at some festivals.
Almost all of the fabric I use is second hand, rescued, upcycled. I save zips and buttons etc from clothes that I rework.
