Hello, I’m Leila, the artist behind LRB Originals. I have always been creative and have explored many different crafts and hobbies over the years, but I only recently returned to painting. What began as a quiet form of meditation during a challenging time has grown into a joyful and grounding part of my life.
It started with a few paints on the kitchen table and has now become a small home studio overflowing with art supplies. My studio doubles as my work from home office for my day job where I am the CEO of a small mental health charity for young people. It is a south facing first floor space with beautiful light, and I love looking out across the green space behind our home, watching the seasons change or my children playing in the garden.
My shelves are filled with handmade art journals and sketchbooks, packed with everything from tiny watercolours to bold abstracts. I also love creating alongside my children and seeing how intuitive and free they are with their art. Their sense of playfulness inspires me every day.
A big part of my practice is trusting the process and letting go of the idea of right or wrong. My work is intuitive, colourful and often influenced by nature, light and the world around me, and I am so happy to be sharing it through LRB Originals. Oh and, I also have a dog who regularly supervises my studio sessions.
