Ethical Credentials… saving resources to save the planet
We need to care for our planet and save resources, I often repurpose materials to save them from going to landfill. My creations are sustainable, made to last with classic designs and quality materials that you will use for years to come.
With this in mind I do the following in my work…
*I use reclaimed zips, buttons and buckles when making my accessories.
*I sew with fabrics that have been repurposed, donated to me or are surplus.
*I have solar panels fitted to help provide electricity to power my sewing machines.
*I use quality wool blends for my knitted accessories which are sustainable, being made to last and hand knit using hand power!
*If I use acrylic yarn it has often been sourced from charity shops which prevents it from going to landfill and also contributes to local charities.
*I crochet plastic bread bags to make shopping bags.
*I make handmade greetings cards using recycled card stock and scrap paper and fabric to embellish them.
*I use recycled packaging to post products or re-use plastic packaging.
I have always drawn and made things from being a child, probably because I was surrounded by crafty women, the textile variety not devious ones!
I spend afternoons in my studio either painting or sewing, followed by evenings of knitting in front of the television preferably by a cosy fire. When I'm not being creative I'm usually walking my border collie Tilly or tidying the garden.
I studied art and textile crafts at Sheffield College of Education and opened my Folksy shop in 2010, steadily developing a collection of stylish, easy to wear knitted accessories and cheerful greeting cards. I also love to up-cycle unwanted fabrics and make something one of a kind and useful from them.
Your order will be posted in recycled packaging, using no plastic. If plastic is used it is re-used plastic that has come my way and I'm happy to reuse and keep out of landfill for a while longer.
I'm a member of Pendle Artists and exhibit paintings 2 or 3 times a year with this group.
You can follow me on Instagram and Facebook where I post work in progress, new stock, behind the scene photos and any events that I attend. I'm a regular exhibitor at Art in the Pen and Crafts in the Pen in Skipton.
You can be assured that all my products are made from quality materials with years of expertise and experience going into them. I listen to my customers and adapt my designs to meet their needs so if you have suggestions I'm happy to do commissions or personalised items. Please get in touch if you like my style and think I can help.
Best wishes

I loved the collated colours and arrangement of these recycled elements to make this cowl.

Love my silk scrunchie! I used it to get my hair out of the way at night, without damaging it or making it static. It arrived very quickly, and was a very reasonable price indeed. Some are so expensive and still mass produced. Thank you Kath!
